Champions Character Creation Guidelines

Character Creation:

Characters will start with a base of 100 points plus 150 points in disadvantages (see the supplemental disad sheet for some possible ideas).

All disads must be approved by the GM.

A character conception must accompany the character submission.

Base stats can be generalized as follows:

DEX: Ranging from 18-30, centering on 20-23

CON: Ranging from 18-33, centering on 18-23

PD: Ranging from 8-28, centering on 12-18

ED: Ranging from 8-28, centering on 12-18

SPD: Ranging from 4-6, centering on 5

Most other statistics will not exceed 20, unless there is a good conception.

Attacks: 40-60 active points
Defenses: 20-40 active points
Movement: 10-40 active points

No power may have more than 60 active points at character conception, and there will be a 120 active point campaign maximum (GM approval of good conception may except).

All characters will start with an initial affiliation with UNTIL, this can be on any level, from superficial (cooperative) to full-time agent status (see UNTIL Homepage for more information about the organization)

When designing the character and conception, please include a description of the most probable evolution of him/her (what will he/she be like after another 150 pts?).

All character submissions, and expenditure of power points in the future are subject to GM approval and should follow a logical conception.

Hints/Suggestions/Tips:

When designing your character, keep your conception in mind. If you can not afford all of the powers you want at inception, you can always add them later with a good conception.

Skills can be very important to round out your character. Remember that if you want your character to be a Ph.D. physicist, you need to purchase the skills at inception. It is highly unlikely that you will finish your Ph.D. thesis between game sessions.

Don’t go focus-crazy! Foci are a power disadvantage, not a way of squeezing more power for your point. If the focus is part of your conception, that is fine, but remember that your character’s enemies will exploit weaknesses just like you would (a la Ironfist for you old-timers).

3 and 8 are very cost-effective numbers. Numbers that end in these two numbers will round to the character’s favor. 18, 23, 28 when divided by 5, round up.

Take advantage of reduced END. This stat is constantly in need, and 1 level of reduced END for a power that uses an odd number of END is very cost effective.

You can compensate for low DEX or long range by buying skill levels.

DEX has many uses. It is used to calculate OCV, DCV, SPD and DEX rolls, as well as the many DEX-based skills. 23 is a good DEX value because it takes advantage of lots of rounding. However, since most characters are going to start at similar speeds, the order of combat is determined by the highest DEX, so sometimes an extra point or two can beat the other characters to the punch.

For an extra 2 pts. you can buy 1" of running. This will allow you to take a 4" half move (remember, round in your favor) rather than 3". In fact, most movements should end in odd numbers to take advantage of the half move. 17" is particularly efficient for END use and rounding (9" half move and only 3 END).

CON will add to your character in five ways. It keeps you from being stunned, and adds to your ED, REC, END and STUN. 18 to 23 CON is good for most everyone, but 28 is good for those who use up a lot of END.
